“Dana Point Youth Board launches City Motto Contest”
Under direction from City Council, the Dana Point Youth Board is holding a City Motto Contest that begins April 11th! The City of Dana Point is one of the only cities in south Orange County without an official city motto. Mottos often represent a city’s culture, mission statement or desired identity. The City of San Clemente is “The Spanish Village By the Sea”, Huntington Beach is “Surf City,” and Aliso Viejo is “A Place to Live, Work and Play.” So what are some ideas for Dana Point?

Art in Motif and First Fridays Art Events seeking artists

Art in Motif has been a well attended and warmly received event by both artists and art patrons. Since its founding by the Dana Point Coastal Arts in 2003 over 100 exhibits have been held at the St Regis. In 2004 and continuing for the 2005 season, the artwork remains on display and available for sale for the entire week. The St. Regis staff has been very helpful in coordinating sales between the artists and Motif customers. If you are an artist interested in displaying at this event, call now to reserve your space. Easels are supplied, just bring 10-12 pieces of art.

New: First Fridays Art Receptions

Continuing in the tradition of the Art in Motif Series, Dana Point Coastal Arts will be sponsoring art events on the First Friday of every month at the Dana Arts Plaza. The studios of Wassmann Fine Arts and Coastal Frameworks at 34118 Pacific Coast Hwy. have offered their spaces for these special events which will be highly publicized to create more awareness of the art scene in Dana Point.

We are looking for approx. 2 three-dimensional and 3 two-dimensional artists for each event. Pedestals and hanging gear are included. These are nicely lighted spaces right on Pacific Coast Hwy. Artists are asked to bring hors d’ouvres, pot-luck style, and contribute towards the wine and invitations which will be supplied for the artists.

Get in on ground floor on this one!

Arts License Plate Supports Arts Programs
There is a specialty arts license that supports arts programs in California. Depicting a brilliant orange sun over a coastline lined with palm trees, the Arts License Plate was the first license plate in the nation solely designed to benefit the arts. Designed by noted California artist Wayne Thiebaud, the Arts License Plate has sold more than 105,000 plates since 1994 and generated more than $5.6 million in revenue for arts education efforts and other local programs.

By purchasing the Arts License Plate you will be supporting arts programs in schools, neighborhoods, and communities. During the 2002-2003 year, funding from the Arts License Plate program went directly into an ‘Arts Day’ at 3 elementary schools in the Capistrano Unified School District (Bathgate, Del Obispo, and Wood Canyon). This was a Local Arts Education Partnership with Capistrano Unified School District and the local arts agency, Arts Orange County.

For ordering information and Frequently Asked Questions, go to the Arts License Plate section of the California Arts Council web site (www.cac.ca.gov).
