Dana Point Coastal Arts Fundraising Tea

Dana Point 04/29/05 Emmy Award winner John Clarke will highlight An Afternoon of Art and Tea at the Fountains at Sea Bluffs on May 14. This special event is sponsored by Dana Point Coastal Arts and will feature a fashion show, art exhibit, theatre performances, and guest speakers.  Actor John Clarke will keynote the afternoon. Clarke was the recipient of the 2004 Daytime Emmy’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He is most popularly known as Days of Our Lives’ Mickey Horton. Clarke’s other acting achievements include numerous film, television and stage performances such as his motion picture roles in Judgment at Nuremberg, It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World; appearances on television’s The New Breed with Leslie Nielson, The F.B.I. and Hart to Hart; and over seventy-five theatrical stage performances as a leading man. Clarke now lives in San Clemente with his wife Patty and devotes his time to community work including his service as former President of the Capistrano Valley Symphony.

A Celebration of Shakespeare will be presented by the Dana Point Theater Company and will introduce attendees to this summer’s July production of As You Like It in Heritage Park. DPTC is Dana Point’s own theater company committed to bringing plays and performances of high artistic merit to the community. 

A special fashion show will also occur during the Tea. The show will feature mature sportswear from Sea Styles of Dana Point Harbor, owned by Mary Palys.

The artwork of various Dana Point Coastal Arts members will be on exhibit at the Fountains. Paintings, watercolors, and photography may be purchased directly from the artists.

Jim Lacy, Dana Point City Councilman, will speak to the group on the city’s plans to support the arts. Lacy has been very supportive of the arts in the city will speak on funding and future plans.

Dana Point Coastal Arts has long advocated the establishment of a cultural arts and education center in Dana Point. The group’s current objectives involve continued support for a cultural site and sponsorship of arts events. Events include: Art in Motif at the Saint Regis, First Friday arts events, Dinner with the Artist, Shakespeare in the Park, Whale Festival plays, and musical concerts.

Tickets for An Afternoon of Art and Tea are $30 and may be purchased at the Fountains; at the DPCA Gallery at 34118 Pacific Coast Highway, #1 or #3; or call (949) 240-8721. The event is a tax-deductible fundraiser for the promotion of the arts in Dana Point.
